Dandies spotted in KC! Well, at the 95th & Metcalf Whole Foods, at any rate. Despite frequent trips to health food stores all over the metro area, this is the first time I’ve laid eyes on Chicago Soy Dairy’s fantastic Dandies – the best (only?) vegan marshmallows you’ll ever try. Perfect for Rice Krispy Treats, awesome for s’mores, and yummy for just eating plain.
Have you spotted Dandies anywhere else in town?
The Impulsive Traveler: A bicycling vegan finds a place in Branson, Mo.
Branson’s about 4 hours south of Kansas City, and while I haven’t been since I was a kid, my husband is a huge fan of tourist kitsch and absolutely cannot wait for me to take him for a visit. He’s even more excited since he spotted this article on the Washington Post website, informing us that Branson is (relatively speaking) rife with vegan eats!
Conveniently Natural has made good on their promise to offer take-out items at Nature’s Own Market on Main. The market announced a week ago that they now carry Shepherdess Pie, Greek Cavatappi Pasta, Maple Roasted Root Veggies, and Faux Chix Salad, all for about $6 apiece. I’ll report back as soon as I lay my hands one one of these – I’m stoked to have these to go options available just a few blocks from my house.
New Vegan Lunch at Starbucks
Starting today, some Starbucks locations are going to start offering new boxed meal offerings – and one of them is pretty yummy looking vegan sesame noodle dish. Not all Starbucks will have these Bistro Boxes, just as many don’t now offer a selection of sandwiches and other items for lunch… but keeps your eyes open and let us know if you spot this new vegan offering out in the wild.
Thanksgiving dinner’s sad and thankless
Christmas dinner’s dark and blue
When you stop and try to see it
From the turkey’s point of view.
Sunday dinner isn’t sunny
Easter feasts are just bad luck
When you see it from the viewpoint
Of a chicken or a duck.
Oh, how I once loved tuna salad
Pork and lobster, lamb chops too
‘Til I stopped and looked at dinner
from the dinner’s point of view.
Now with even more vegan meat substitutes! It seems like every time we go to Waldo Pizza lately, there are new vegan goodies. Last time, I reported news that they have new vegan pepperoni and sausage pizza toppings, as well as vegan after dinner mints. Today we find out that there also have faux hamburger and chicken added to the list.
Moral of the story? Ask your server what they’re up to, and let them know it’s appreciated.
